It may surprise some, as it surprised me, that many people do not acknowledge how absolutely necessary it is for their own souls, that they adopt a spiritual posture of forgiveness towards ALL. Instead, “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”…if you think about it, this is the underlying principle that actually does govern most relationships. A majority of us “respond” in relationships. Our equation with each other is just a response to how we are treated by them.Everyone fears being “taken for granted”. When a relationship comes with expectations, there is bound to be hurt. Its a simple fact that – NO human can meet all our emotional expectations.

I believe, -people are inherently good. But due to the play of various forces and factors , situations,circumstances, unfulfilled expectations and misunderstandings being the most common of them all, in a relationship, sometimes ,one person tends to get hurt. So the problem of unforgiveness will often begin when one party is simply put- deeply hurt. The offender may or may not even realize that he has caused pain. The wound is left open and unattended, it only festers, going deeper and deeper, spreading slowly but surely and the hurt feelings take root deeply and now branch out in different forms like SELF PITY which soon develops into a host of other negative emotions like ANGER, COLD INDIFFERENCE, ALOOFNESS , HARDENING OF THE HEART, BITTERNESS, RESENTMENT and finally culminating into deep HATRED and UNFORGIVENESS. When this happens, the negative energy of unforgiveness binds the aggrieved person. What started out as a hurt turns into a spiritual bondage. Life soon turns into a prison and his own attitude attracts negativity into his life.

Often at this stage , a person may not even realize he needs to forgive X. Worse still, he may not want to forgive. He will either deny the fact that he harbors resentment in his heart or he may even honestly believe that he is justified in feeling so. He may not actually plot evil and cause harm to his offender but he may wallow in a self pitying spirit and this will taint his vision with a negative, suspicious outlook towards the person in particular and later towards life in general and all .

He has taken the bait and is now a prisoner to his own negative thoughts and emotions. He will encounter hurdles, blocks, dissatisfaction; nothing seems to go right in his life.He will keep attracting negativity in his life …And he doesn’t know why!

Unforgiveness, is not only a state of unwillingness to forgive but it’s also a state when a person is unable to forgive. Often , he may not be aware that what he is harboring is not only hurt, but hurt festered into unforgiveness.

I myself have struggled with this for many years. I actually “struggled” with this negative emotion. I felt helpless, but I realised one day that to forgive is to simply to “decide ” to forgive. I exercised my free will and during every prayer time I asked the Lord for this grace – To forgive X ….I prayed for this person and for myself. One day I realized, I cud understand and love this person. I was free and light and happy. More than that I could feel joy in my prayer time. I could feel the presence of God. And doors started opening for me. I was free!!

Most of the times we are controlled by our emotions. There is no right and wrong where feelings go. And more often one can find themselves trapped in a pit , led there by their own reckless, free falling emotions.

Man is an emotional being . We live in society and are in the course of our interactions someone is bound to get hurt. Its upto us how we respond to our feelings . Do we dwell on them and take them INTO our heart or do we let them come and GO ?

Proverbs 4:23

New International Version – “Above all , guard your heart ,for everything you do flows from it.”

RSV version – “Keep your heart with all vigilance ,for from it flow the springs of life”

Victorious living is , conscious living by faith and obedience to the word of God. The greatest secrets of life are hidden in the Bible.
The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Psalm 119:165

“Great peace have those who love your law ;Nothing can make them stumble”

Simply speaking…

Life…. keep it simple and make it large….larger than life itself.

2019…..The world today….too much noise, too many gadgets, chores simplified yet… still busy…no time?

SSShhhhhh …Silence

Stop…. Think… Examine.

But no! We choose to run away.

Running away… does not always need a suitcase , cause thoughts do not need to be clothed , some come with an invisible mask.

Let top up the volume.. , make some Noise… maybe a lot of noise will dim the sounds of that still inner voice?

Rush… maybe if we are so preoccupied, we won’t have the time to think, or listen to that “gentle voice”.

Free will… our greatest weapon when we choose well and yet to some the worst weapon of self destruction.

With this free will, we make decisions that crush that voice of our “conscience” or the spirit of goodness , inherently present in all man….Till we can hear it no more.

But we cannot kill it. Its still around and is unhappy, and it makes us restless.

Hence,we start running. Hold on !…. Where can we escape from ourselves ?

At some point we will need to stop….. I hope, before the “full stop.”

Are you one of those who say, “Life is bad and unfair”…..?

The rule of nature…. as you sow so shall you reap.Look back… rewind… you will find your answers. Did you sow a good seed ? Were your deeds good?

If so , Great ! keep nurturing the good seed you plant, it WILL grow and bear fruit….some day at the right time.There is always a “right” time for everything. Till then stop trying to uproot the tender sapling and look for fruits.Believe and know that your efforts will bear fruit at the RIGHT time.

Be grateful , you will develop patience and peace while waiting.

But, even if you didn’t sow well…. all is not lost.Never give up on life.

Understand…that life is your best teacher.

Be open…to receiving its lessons.Be like clay, He is the potter and you are in His very able hands.

Would you like to trade your unhealthy stress levels, high blood pressure, Substances abused (cigarettes, alcohol, drugs) wrongful addictions, sleeplessness, restlessness ….for something better? Like joy and inner peace? The choice is yours…Its how you want to exercise your free will.

If you have chosen life, then….

Seek HIM… The source of all Goodness…. through Prayer and meditation

Persist till you find Him ….Surrender !! Connect ! AND Receive His Holy Spirit of truth.

The truth and only the truth can set you free.

The soul already knows … hence the restlessness within you.

The Holy Spirit of God will lead YOU gently, convict you and give you every grace you need to accept the truth.

Love , Love , Love.

Repent, Reconcile,Heal.

Glow with the joy which comes from His presence and the inner peace within you.

Spread His love.

What else does one need today but …Inner peace.

The soul is restless until it rests in Him.

For we are a part of Him, made in his image and likeness and the breathe of life is His, breathed into a lifeless body made out of dust. Of course we will be restless until our soul connects to His through the medium of prayer and meditation.

Is it too simple? What complicates it then ? We are blinded , by the ruler of this world. The father of lies and deception…The wolf in sheep’s clothing..The evil one himself.He exists ! He can only tempt you, but we can resist him with our free will and he will flee from us…Alas ! man is weak and we do the very things we do not want to do.

Hence , we need a Saviour.. Jesus Christ. To buy us out. He exchanged His life for ours….The life of God… for the life of man.Was it a good bargain? A good deal? Apparently HE considered it worth every drop of his Blood.

Why then are we complicating life by running around in circles ….to fill the void in our lives …in search of love…. in search of happiness??

We are looking in wrong places. Hence we are still empty.

Look for Love -to the source of all love. For it all boils down to the souls need to find love and to love.

And you will be content.

Choose to be brave…… you have nothing to lose but your fears.

When i think “brave”, I picture the little shepherd boy David accepting the challenge of the proud , haughty and towering Philistine-Goliath. I get the goosebumps when I picture that scene in the theater of my mind’s eye…

To those of you unfamiliar with that biblical episode, David was a young shepherd boy and his role was to look after his father’s flock. His brothers were enrolled in the Israelite army. One day he was sent carrying food for his brothers. This happened during the time when Israel was at war with Philistine. The Philistines had a big, proud giant in their midst, named Goliath. He challenged the Israelite army day after day , to come and fight him. The entire army was paralyzed with fear. David walks in at this point, and sees the fear writ large on their faces. He announces that he would fight the giant; amidst opposition from his own brothers, who were driven more by jealousy than concern- after all David was the insignificant youngest brother of them all, whose job was to tend sheep.

However, David ignored their murmurings and walked into the fight , confident, not in his own strength, but having faith that God would deliver Goliath into his hands. He wore no armor , nor did he carry any weapons except his sling and 5 small stones. And that was enough! Goliath was knocked out cold!

Even as I write this , I want to clap my hands in glee , and applaud David’s spirit. Yes, he WAS brave – not because he knocked out Goliath, but because he did not dwell on his fears but he chose faith in God and affirmed words of confidence in the one who could do all things., and literally swung into action. He was self confident and  comfortable in his own skin. He refused to wear the heavy armor worn by the rest ,(recognizing that it would hinder his movement maybe) or pick up unfamiliar weapons to fight Goliath.He fought him on his own terms. And won.

We all encounter “Goliaths” in our lives. Goliath instilled fear in the people. Fear is real and not to be ridiculed. I am sure David too would have experienced that emotion- even if momentarily. I empathize with all those battling fears. My 10 year old son is still struggling to sleep alone in the room at night. There are some who are scared of the dark, some who afraid to speak up in public gatherings, children fear the unfamiliarity of new surroundings and being left alone without their normal caregivers. We are all afraid to die, and scared of the unknown.The imagination can play terrifying games if fear lies within.

However, you can choose to be “brave” – when you decide not to turn a blind eye to injustice being done to another and speak up for the oppressed; when you decide to go against the tide and ignore the voices around you and listen to your heart and follow your dream. You are brave ,every time you choose to tackle your Goliath head on.

You don’t need to enroll in the army to prove yourself brave. To all those brave people , standing up against their Goliaths…..I applaud your spirit and I have no doubts that , if you persist, you will overcome!

Mind over matter

Its all in the mind and whats in there always matters. What and how you think, determines your mood, your reactions, your actions and ultimately affects your relationships, your stress levels and your life.

I myself was prey to fearful , negative thinking..arising out of insecurities and really baseless fears, for a major part of my life.I always believed that my thoughts defined me , were a part of me..until one day by the grace of God , realisation dawned that the thoughts were not part of me. On the contrary they were like little arrows that would come from outside me, and I did have the power in Christ to control what I allowed to enter into my mind.

2.Corinthians 10.3

“Indeed we live as humans but do not wage war according to human standards; for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human ,but they have divine power to destroy strongholds.We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.”

This word of God liberated me. I set up a small antenna in my mind, which would pick up the signals of “bad thoughts” A thought which is in contravention to the word of God, a thought which leaves me with no peace. And I would then very emphatically exercise my will and bind and tie up these negative thoughts in the name of Jesus and send them to the cross.

Exercising my will was like exercising a muscle.. soon the exercise was effortless and a way of life. Most people are controlled by their thoughts, but one can live consciously when we learn to control our mind.

However long and dark the night maybe… the sun WILL rise.

I love watching the sun rise every morning. And I am blessed with an exhilarating view of this every morning…Nature carries a message for us,if only we clear our minds enough to receive it.

Sun rise and sun sets…Everything has its time. To quote the Bible (which,by the way, you will find me quoting a lot)

Ecclesiastes 3.

“For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven :

A time to be born and a time to die;

a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted;

a time to kill and a time to heal;

a time to break down and a time to build up;

a time to weep and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn and a time to dance;

a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;

a time to seek and a time to lose;

a time to keep and a time to throw away;

a time to tear down and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence and a time to speak;

a time to love and a time to hate;

a time for war and a time for peace.”

Easier said than done ? Ask those who are “waiting ” for their time to arrive. However if you understand and accept this simple fact, you will also be able to cultivate the right attitude as you wait…A patient, calm, forgiving and loving nature and you will have peace.
